I was over at please sir's blog and noticed the official closing of Domino magazine. It has been a great source of inspiration for me for a long time. Sad news, but I am glad I have kept most of my issues for reference.
My daughter Braelynn, who is 5 loves to draw at the same time that I may be creating something so I gave her this sketch mannequin to draw from. I instantly fell in love with what she drew!! Well I fall in love with all of her drawings, but this blew me away. She complained and did not like it saying "Her arm is so fat".."No sweetie this is seriously amazing"! To which I took it fast from her so that I may frame and enjoy it before she ripped it up :)
So I decided I will combine and give 10 random facts about moi, and give a random photo that I have never posted from Bambola's tag, girl with the big brown eyes with the story behind it.
1. When I was in 4th grade, I had Mononucleosis (the kissing disease) ...Why is it they call it that anyway?? But every time I am extremely exhausted I start to wonder If I have that again, (even though I am running off of 4 hours of sleep).
2. I could beat myself up and win, I am so hard on myself to get things done sometimes as far as work and daily chores I rarely let myself relax, and if I do I sure will make myself feel guilty for it. :) But I have a passion for putting things in its place. I love organizing, I love to clean my surroundings and make it all pretty, it relaxes me. Note to self: Get out more..
3. I have never ever had a speeding ticket or any sort of traffic violation (knock on wood). I have been pulled over plenty but have had a nice streak of luck. (it better not break now that I am talking about it) also a bit superstitious. But the best thing I got off of was when I was 16 and I was pulled over for running a red light, having a light out in the back and front, not wearing my glasses ( I had a restriction at the time), having to many passengers in my vehicle (7 of us in a little Honda civic) I was past curfew, and speeding on top of that. He was not a happy cop, he actually made me go sit in his car and as he was checking out my license, he asked me how long I have had my nose pierced for?? " Its a mole sir". He was embarrassed and let me go with a warning.
4. I want to move to Europe.. Period!
5. Every month I tell my body to just keep those boobs that come right before your monthly hell, those are the ones that make me happy..
6. I am obsessed with information. I want to know more, more and more, and when you quiz me on what I have learned, I will get nervous and loose it until you walk away. Must come from being an extremely shy child.
7. I am more open with strangers than I am with the ones I care about, I have a great wall that surrounds me, I am not even sure of how to break it down. which takes me to #8.
8. I would love therapy!! Talking about myself with no guilt, or fear of judgement, telling all of my secrets. Sign me up.
9. This song has always given me chills since I was little.
10. I become addicted to certain meals, which I will eat over and over again until I hate it for awhile. Example, 5 times this week I have eaten the same salad, (cucumbers, mushrooms, yellow tomato, glazed walnuts and vinaigrette) and I want another one :p
Here I was messing around after a photoshoot where we were using fish necklaces ( they were real and dead) with a model. I decided last minute to pop the fish in my mouth. I look retarded and cannot believe how still I was as the fish's tail was way down my throat. Photo: Tim Morehead
This piece was inspired by Balenciaga's 2009 resort collection which I love.
And this just made me laugh!!
“Last night I worked, unpaid, for six hours so that a fashion designer could continue dressing socialites and selling out her sunglass and perfume licenses and decorating her SoHo apartment with Picassos. I did it notionally for pictures on Style.com ("Think of your pictures on Style.com!" a minder hissed whenever we models began to look slightly wilted in the third hour of standing, immobile, in shoes invariably two sizes too small or two too big.) But actually, if you want to be technical, I did it for two slices of melon and a lipstick and a dress". — Jezebel's anonymodel, on the Resort 2009 modeling experience Source: fashionologie
I am so excited as I have just ordered fabric with my illustration above, I have yet to decide what to make with it but it will open more fun creative stuff for you all. When it arrives I will attach a photo of what the fabric looks like, so in the meantime I would love to pick your brains on some ideas :)
As I sternly explain to my daughter to keep drinks away from Mommies Mac and tell her how if milk spills near it it could ruin and cost mommy lots of money, five minutes later I spill my tea on the keyboard. Goes to show follow and live by the rules you explain to others lol.
Oh why is it I sleep through the insanely loud horrible noise of my alarm clock, but those tiny sounds that are around me are the ones that wake me up?
In our current economy what have you all cut back on?
I have changed my spending ways actually before the economy went spiraling down, I eliminated any debt and changed my spending habits starting in 2007 (whoohoo) :) so I still feel like nothing much has changed for me as far as learning to sacrifice my old ways. (Shoes are still hard). For me though I think the biggest sacrifice is not eating out as much and the weekly girls night out with fabulous appetizers and wine. ( I miss them).
The good thing is I am loving the kitchen more and learning to be creative with new recipes. Also a once a week dinner at a friends house is really an enjoyable way to get out without getting out. Photo Leigh 2009 First steps for me in making music, this weekend we started playing around with different sounds and lyrics. An exciting challenge at that, but every second is enjoyable. I am also learning that as I am listening to some samples how I am easily letting go with my emotions and letting words flow, testing my ranges and learning what works and what doesn't. I will try to share my new experiences with music with you all when I can. I am going to dig deep within and let the paper be a mess of emotions until I might find what works. Rule number 1, no time limit, but a few lines would be nice by next week. :)
In the meantime I hope to have a new illustration up this weekend and I finally watched the German film, "The Lives of Others", loved it. A good movie that shows how empathy for others can change the way you live your own life.
Today I was inspired by two things. I was on a search for this, a contest from The Panic Room's blog, and inspired by Joanna Goddards amazing!!!! engagement photos from photographer Max Wanger If you have not seen them yet, you must, they blew me away. Not only are they gorgeous but precious and absolutely fresh.
Here are a few of my favorites, They are so adorable :)
Dropping temperatures and snow while out taking pictures today. I found some great locations but unfortunately my fingers started to go numb and my eyes were watering with the cold air so I felt it best to keep it short. I will also definitely have to use the location again from the black and whites, with a better outfit! lol.
Here we are the beginning of 2009, so far many smiles and hopes for the new year. I am not going to pressure myself with specific resolutions but instead live in the moment and do my best in each and every one of those.
I cannot wait to actually get back to normality and catch up as well with all of you. I have been editing a few good photos that hopefully I will get up this weekend and I am also taking out my camera with my creative partner and long time friend Aaron all day today.
I have also been looking back at old videos of my friend Jen and I, we used to set up the video camera and record our girls night out conversations, very Seinfeld like with the topics, but they crack me up at how much laughter we can have over the simplest conversations, especially when a glass of wine is involved. Should I share? :) I might put up a few and start up that tradition with her again. Here is just a welcoming of 2009 with Jen.
Thank you all for the wonderful New Years wishes:) and online friendships.
