Cutting back

In our current economy what have you all cut back on?

I have changed my spending ways actually before the economy went spiraling down, I eliminated any debt and changed my spending habits starting in 2007 (whoohoo) :) so I still feel like nothing much has changed for me as far as learning to sacrifice my old ways. (Shoes are still hard). For me though I think the biggest sacrifice is not eating out as much and the weekly girls night out with fabulous appetizers and wine. ( I miss them).

The good thing is I am loving the kitchen more and learning to be creative with new recipes. Also a once a week dinner at a friends house is really an enjoyable way to get out without getting out. Current obsession, recipes from Nigella Lawson Just made these,
Green Eggs and Ham So easy, so good!

Oh yum. I love Nigella Lawson and I love chefs. Good ones who treat the whole food creation process as a work of art. My ex owned an international catering company - I loved watching the chefs at work. I also strangely only like very simple food which seems to annoy so called foodies. Nothing with sauces. This omelette looks perfect! Is there anything Miss Leigh that you cannot turn a creative hand to?

I don't eat out as often (for health AND financial reasons), and I'm buying fewer books--I'm a spendaholic when it comes to books.

I haven't eaten out since the new year, I've cooked at home. I don't go to the movies anymore, I rent. So much...gone.

I am not really noticing that people are affected by the credit crunch in Holland. Spending money and buying stuff, they certainly don't need. :D

The name's not quite so glamourous, but they sure look GREAT!!
The recession hasn't hit us as hard but I'm still gonna have to learn how to not spend.. seeing as I won't have the money to soon!

Nigella makes everything tasty & divine!

I'm feeling it too - less nights out, less eating out .... and then the guilty feeling when I do go out :(

Been a while since i've been on any blogs - some amazing photos from you recently! :)

I'm kind of in the same boat as you ...by the beginning of 2007, we had paid off all of our debt and I continued to not only save but not spend as well. In the late summer/fall I started shopping a bit more but now that my hours have been cut back, I will cut out the shopping again. It was fun to be a bit frivolous but now it's time to be smart again.

That looks so yummy. I agree about changing spending. I have stopped going out to eat on a whim and started to stay in more and cook...it is actually quite fun to do it:)

looks good! I am thinking much more over things I buy, than before. That way I think I enjoy my purchases more also!

I've stopped shopping. I don't get all the mags I was getting. We stopped eating out as much. I cook a lot more. It's mostly little things that really add up. sigh.

Congrats on eliminating your debt. That probably feels sooo good. That is one of my top New Year's resolutions. That's a good idea to get together at a friend's home.

We started cooking and eating at home when I became a student again in 2007, so not much has changed. I don't buy as many books as I used to, I discovered bookswaps online and it's been a great way to save money and space!

My lifestyle in Seattle is also liveable in an economy like this, I live in a self contained neighborhood close to downtown, don't own a car, don't have crazy debt, and only buy things when I have the money! Shoes are still my weakness, though, I agree!

-Sascha, what a great idea about bookswaps, I am definitely jumping on that train:)
