Blocks of Me Time

Chaos and interruptions, a typical day for many of us. This picture says it well, as I was going to capture myself with my journal looking down, but the second the shutter opened, one of my kittens decided to jump onto my clothing rack, up goes my head which caused the photo to blur.

Getting down to the topic at hand though, I wanted to discuss scheduling me time, whatever those joyous, relaxing, learning or mindless activities that we want to fit into a day, but most the time put off to the last minute or leave no time for at all.

Over the past few years, I would hope that there would be some time left in any given day to get to, for example, studying my French, journaling on a daily basis, meditating consistently, etc, etc. But most of the time, days turn into nights, into weeks, and so forth causing frustration, and questioning why I cannot seem to accomplish a few simple blocks of time for myself each day, light bulb! Blocking out time. Just as I would schedule a phone meeting with my clients.

It's so important to have that balance as they say, but that balance can mean different things for each of us. Regardless, I hope that you can find that as best as you can, even if interruptions happen, schedule in that me time, just as a with a shower, dinner, family time, going out with friends, and so forth. Make time for those passions, those little things. I'm not perfect with it, but have noticed such an improvement in my well being overall when I make it happen.

"Tender" ~ Journal Poems

Sleeping past silenced alarms inching towards skin rather then the safe wall of withdrawal
Content turn of virtue
Continuing in motion in content
Halted friendless due to preferred leisure
Warm ruthful breaths...
Response to ego and shift love to yours truly
A lens, nature and glistening haze of flurry
Calm duration before frost-bound
The tender now mirthful...

Self Portrait image inspired by Parc Boutique image via April & May

Darlings my poor blog! I miss it! With the shift of easier posting on my other social networks and a crazy few months that I have been working behind the scenes the blog seems to be set aside. I will try to hopefully get on to obsessing about it again, which I actually do in my head, but just need to put that all into a regular thing again. Anyhooooo.. I was updating my journal, which is my book of everything, lists, notes on culture, inspirations and my personal thoughts and once in awhile poems that find way between it all. This one I found from January of this year. It inspired me to continue to practice and add some more before years end and a new journal begins.

I hope all is well!! xo

In The Moment

“The sky grew darker, painted blue on blue, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night.”
― Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance

The last creation for 2013, I decided to take a self portrait to reflect the two sides of me.
When I look in the mirror with days that I do not have time to do my hair, just throw it up and go about my day, it amazes me at how different I feel. How it effects everything about my day. I am more of a serious person, I feel older, wiser and a bit quiet. When my hair is down I feel more confident, silly, younger. As I posted these photos I can definitely see that difference. But with each year, especially in 2013 I am learning to embrace all the sides that make me, me. The one that wears my heart on my sleeve, the one that continues to dream, the one that loves deeply with all of my heart. Discovering the person I am and will continue to grow into.

I have also been reflecting this year about time and how to live in the moment more then ever. With a new year upon me just hours away, I want to keep that simple resolution of doing everything with love, simple and easy as that. I know myself far to much that if I start making specific lists I will fail or be to hard on myself for not starting or completing what I need to and I would rather take all of that energy to just do my best in each and every moment. So no regrets, just lessons learned and gratefulness for everything that was in 2013.

Thank you everyone for another amazing year. I truly adore and appreciate your support. Looking forward to the adventures, creations and days ahead for 2014!!

Happy New Year!! xo

There are sleeves and then there are sleeves, which this tops the list as the most creative of any I own, well maybe back in 80's when it was all about ruffles and Purple Rain.

A tuxedo jacket in casual form with a touch of red. I usually stay away from red and choose lighter shades to accessorize along with my basics, but absolutely knew with this Rebecca Minkoff bag that it needed to find its way in to my closet. It is my 4th piece from her brand and must say more and more I am becoming dangerously addicted. I am handing down my first wallet from her now to my daughter which brings me to a major simplifying of my stuff actually. I am taking on the challenge each day (10-20 min max) to organize, donate, recycle or throw away things in my life I have no need or room for in the entirety of my home. The thought alone is freeing. Bras to junk drawers, closets to extra dishes that just collect dust, au revoir!!

Lets Face It

Wearing a gifted shirt that I will obsessively wear from aldomartins, thank you ladies!! Just in love with the detail and quality. Shoes - Steven, Skirt - Silence and Noise, Sunglasses - Coach.

Inspired today by David Bowie and his many faces that photographer Masayoshi Sukita shot in 1977. The final one chosen became the infamous image that was for his "Heros" album cover.

In other news, I cannot believe summer is almost over ( back to school ) in 12 days for my Braelynn, WHAT! Flew by for sure, and causing face #3. I had so many plans to do a million fun things, and only have reached a few of them, I suppose that is the norm but with the hottest summer on record here, we stayed in most days. I will say though, because of this heat, I have become the earliest of early birds and LOVE it! A former night owl I can officially say. (Until winter rolls in ) ;)

Unmellow Yellow

Dress- Gap, Shoes- Jimmy Choo, Necklace- Banana Republic, Sunglasses- Spitfire

Perfect for keeping my energy up as I finish up a few deadlines. I need as much energy as possible as I am juggling about 10 things at once and at the same time welcoming a new kitten into the house for my daughter. Oliver the older cat is not so happy about that (please say it subsides) and they will fall in love and frolic around the house and lawn thinking they didn't know what they could have done without each other. In time, in time..

I hope your having a wonderful week!

The power went out for a few hours, so wonderfully I took advantage of some free time to play birdie in the street with the girls and find a spot in the grass to read for a bit. Only I think I sprained my finger competitively acting the pro ;) And I was praying when I laid on the grass there was no cat, dog poo beneath me (go figure) ;)

To Tuck or Untuck - & How to Achieve the Perfect Brow

Not sure if most of you know, but I used to be a professional freelance Makeup Artist and Esthetician for almost a decade before I decided it just was not fulfilling my heart as a career to which I then decided to pursue my art full time. (yay for following my gut) I wanted more creative control I suppose but am blessed and happy that I did get to work in that industry as well as I feel it put so much influence into where I am now with my art and photography. I learned so much from the photographers, especially lighting that I didn't in school and just the ideas that were focused on when putting together a photoshoot. So in regards I wanted to show you this wonderful eyebrow tutorial from Anastasia who is based in Beverly Hills.
Anastasia has long been the definitive eye and brow expert for icons such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Oprah as well as hip up-and-comers like Diana Agron, Selena Gomez and Kristen Cavalari and has recently expanded into colors that match their superior standards for skincare based cosmetics.

I was professionally trained to shape eyebrows for clients, but she has this amazing kit that I think is just wonderful if you want the perfect brows. Take a look and you can buy her products here for yourself.

"Did the wind-up bird forget to wind your spring?"

Completely going to wear this shirt out before summers end, it just goes with everything which I love and in those cases where I can get a bit obsessive with certain pieces, I should just get 2.
Anyhooo I am almost done working on a project this weekend and shortly will be returning to Miami for another mini getaway. I cannot believe it has been a year since I was there. Time really does fly... which means I need to find those moments to slow it down more often.

Have a great weekend xo

Agnes Obel - Close Watch

Hello everyone, it's been a busy few days working hard on a fun project for Creem Magazine which I will share soon. So I decided to take a quick break tonight from that and pick up my camera taking inspiration from a photo I came across (3rd photo above) in one of my Acne Paper Magazines. Endless inspiration from those.

Under drama skies

The coolest skies this past few weeks here due to daily thunderstorms. I actually was going to take these photos before the rain, but was caught in the car until it passed to which I became obsessed with catching a lighting bolt, I missed some bigger better ones, but at least felt satisfied with 1.

I also just listed this Original Abstractions Aside in my Etsy shop if your interested or have any questions feel free to contact me for more information.

Hope your weekend was amazing and see you tomorrow for #Music Monday. xo
