This was a fun piece and a bit different as I painted mostly with a palette knife, so thicker then my usual work, but for this exhibition in London, I really want to also challenge myself a bit and step out of my comfort zone. She was based on this fabulous editorial, featuring Megan Collision. And now off to finish 5 and 6, clock is ticking.. :D
Beauty is ever to the lonely mind A shadow fleeting; she is never plain. She is a visitor who leaves behind. The gift of grief, the souvenir of pain. ~Robert Nathan
I came across a few things Italian this past week so felt inspired to create from it. First was this painting that I really loved working on which was inspired from Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli. They purchased this 18th century Palazzo that will hold their extensive and amazing art collection for the Prada Foundation, you can read about it more over at Vanity Fair.. So amazing and thought I would give my touch and style to it and add to my City series of paintings. Which you can grab here
Also I came across this photo below from browsing Bryan Boy's blog and instantly thought of my Mom, as she love's (who doesn't) Italy and her nickname is Gilly. And I related to Bryan on his post on taking time for himself especially with all that he has going on, but my Mom and I are so alike in that sense of how we also need to have our alone times. I savor it! And now that I know that restaurant exsits, it is a perfect excuse to take a Mother/Daughter trip to Venice... Si!!
Here is some more Italian treats to continue the mood and hope your having a wonderful weekend! xo Umberto Tozzi - Ti Amo
"How does the individualist find dignity and purity in a plastic culture and a polluted world?"
A few discoveries about Johnny Depp from an article in the July issue of Vanity Fair, ~
His song of focus while filming Public Enemies in Chicago, Artie Shaw's 1938 recording of "Nightmare"
which I love and as I listen I want to envision dressing as Kate Moss here while
sipping an apéritif, flirting with all the boys and pretending to laugh at all of their not so funny jokes ;)
Also I learned that he paints oil portraits of those that have inspired him. Here is one of him near a painting he did of his wife Vanessa.
Along with the fact that he owns an island (Little Halls Pond Cay)~ F*ck off island.. he is very down to earth and has such an appreciation for those that have helped him on his path, even naming all the beaches on his island after those he cares about and his Vessel ~Vajoliroja~ after his immediate family, (Vanessa, Johnny, Lily Rose and Jack). He is very intriguing for sure. Here is the Full Article".
What a strange week, I still have such great news and so close to sharing, but in the meantime I was faced with inconveniences so to speak the last few days. I was on my way to taking my daughter to school on friday then to pay my first traffic violation ever when a huge moving van decided to take his left lane and make it a right, where I was. Scrapping and pulling my bumper completely off along while denting just about the entire front and left side of my car.. My worst fear being caught between a huge truck and no where to go. We are okay thankfully, but car needs a lot of help. Off to the rental place tomorrow and more to put on my long list of things to do. So stuck at home all weekend, I decided to have more fun with my Flourish painting and make a new open edition print. :)
