Linda Rodin, an inspiration in age, beauty and style.. Period.

I draw from what inspires, when I can, and this weekend while getting lost on Pinterest (easy to do ) I fell down the rabbit hole of Linda Rodin's persona. I ended up with this illustration. (inspired by last photo ) She is truly stunning, all around.

Also with the colder fall days approaching, time to stock back up on these favorites from her line. Especially the lip balm, I have a natural deeper pink tone to my lips and this lip balm creates a perfect balance to lighten them up a bit. I also love to apply both of these throughout the day. Living in Colorado, I could use the best of moisture on a constant basis.

Aurora

 photo AurorabyLeighViner_zps855bf3eb.jpg

Hello everyone! I hope your having a fantastic weekend. Wanted to share the newest edition to my shop from an archived piece that has been updated for the shop.

Also I will be heading to the humidity of Austin shortly and cannot help but think about what to do with my hair... I know so important, but really in the grand scheme of it all, a bad hair day can effect my entire day. I have naturally curly hair, which gives me options that I appreciate as I get older actually instead of looking at it as a bad thing as I did most of my childhood, but when visiting high humidity places it begins growing sideways in an uncomfortable and annoying manner, add heat to that and I just want it out of the way. I have not yet found a magical product that will keep my hair from misbehaving, so yes an up-do will have to do. Here are a few of my inspirations I will be taking with me.

La La Lipsticks

Photobucket Photobucket

PhotobucketPhotobucket

8 years old, locking myself in the bathroom with my Mom's makeup and trying to emulate the beauty pages of what was inside her magazines. The beginnings of my fascination with makeup and well Vogue, Bazaar, Elle really, you get the idea.

Fast forward to when I was 16 spending most of my hard earned money browsing the makeup aisle and buying every color of lipstick I could possibly afford that week. You would think I was stockpiling for some unknown makeup crisis. Honestly it was always the lipsticks over anything else.

Then came my chance to make a living doing just that into my 20's when I worked as a Makeup Artist and Esthetician, oh yes I can now collect makeup, skin care products and millions of tubes of lipstick and they are all tax deductable, hello, felt like I hit the jackpot.

I absolutely loved and enjoyed being a Makeup Artist, and did so for almost 8 years part time but something was still missing, all of that obsession with color and makeup was a stepping stone for my career as a illustrator and artist. I think back now and realize that must have been what I was really looking for when browsing those aisles over and over again as a young girl. I really am grateful for that stage in my life working as a freelance Makeup Artist as not only did I meet some amazing friends, but it helped shape how I work with the face now as an artist on paper.

Here and now though I still have quite the collection of lipsticks to choose from, do not get me wrong, I carry at least 5 at all times in my bag. I also still go crazy at the makeup counters wanting to continue that collective process, but I remind myself now to only grab the shades that work best for me and what I will wear on a continual basis. The rest of my collection from my past career are play colors for my 9 year old daughter, which just yesterday I watched her getting ready for school, pulling out her hello kitty makeup that I got her last Christmas and smiled watching her put on light eyeshadow and colored lip gloss for the day proudly.

What about you, what are some of your earliest memories with makeup as a young girl?

9 Shades for Fall

From top left, Chanel Gold Fingers, Essie Armed and Ready, Butter London Union Jack Black, Deborah Lippmann Don't Tell Mama, Dior New World Purple, Lancome Miss Coquelicot, Nars Storm Bird, YSL Bleu Cobalt, MAC Myth

I have a billion and 2 shades of nail polish, but even so I cannot help but pick up a few more each season. I could really go on and on with so many amazing colors out there, but instead focused on a few of my absolute favorite choices that I would wear over and over by the time spring comes around. These shades pretty much cover the spectrum for any mood I am after, (which changes on a constant basis) ;)

Strawberries and Helmut Lang

Pants- Helmut Lang, Shirt- Guess, Shoes- Zara, Sunglasses- Coach

Lancome Juicy Tubes - Berry Bold

The simple joys of the season, strawberries are ready for the picken, a slight breeze to pull out the Helmut Lang pants that I packed for Europe but neglected to wear and not sure why as they are quite loved, and the perfect berry gloss to cover any of my favorite seasonal lipsticks. And throw in a new song from Kylie to give the day the energy it needs. Happy Friday!

Go To Color

Lancome Rouge in Love ~ Lasting Kiss
, Styledotcom, sketch by moi.

I used to be a Makeup artist, so naturally I have a stockpile of lipsticks among other products that I would collect frequently, well to be honest, I did that before, for as long as I was able to start wearing makeup, but I always have an everday shade that is my favorite that I carry along with and at this moment it looks like it will be Lancome's Lasting Kiss. That pile of just in case colors will come along too in my bag. Ridiculous really, but the fun of being a girl, mixing the colors and still feeling like I am playing grownup.

How about you, what is your favorite everyday go to shade?

"Beauteous Refined"

18x24 oil on canvas

I have the 2nd oil painting to finally share with you which is for my client and exhibition in London, I had to go through some touch ups and yes with oils it is a patient process. ( a good lesson for a slightly impatient person as myself). This one was based on a beauty shot from the talented Jan Welters. I am going through some of my favorite photographers for this entire series, so honestly I am more then anxious and excited to get going on the third.

Also with the cat and mouse game of trying to get caught up on this oh so amazing busy month that is December, . I am still not done with shopping for Christmas, but today woke up to at least 10 inches of snow here in Denver, the car is staying put and a hot long bath instead.. of course..

Hope you are all having a wonderful week...

Valentino's Braid

Stockholm Street Style

Style.com

I have to admit, I am one of those when it comes to hair styles that stick to a basic few, (only 3) straighten my natural curly hair, wear it natural and use the curling iron, and "I do not have time for my hair today and it is pissing me off" toss of a ponytail. But looking at this top photo of the gorgeous Karmen Pedaru looking so chic with her updo and braid I cannot help but think, I never take time to really try new styles with my hair.

I am not sure why, I just stick with the basic what works out of habit.. It could be though when I was working in a salon many years ago that I had someone give me a new style,

"Why not, whatever you think looks amazing and different". That obviously did not work for me (or anyone for that matter) and left looking like this,

Pucci Spring 2009

Ok maybe not that bad, but I sure did feel like it while walking around downtown running errands after my hair was 80s fied.

What about you? Do you tend to stick with a few styles out of habit, or do you take the time for creative styles with your hair?

Today I vow!!

Today I vow to let my natural curly hair just be more often... I have been trying to grow out my layers and the length for what seems forever!! I really do not mind the long layers I used to have, but once I cut those below my chin and my hair became shorter as a result... I have entered the long process of wanting it back.. A few years now have passed and I have yet to see it again! So I think what is best for now is air drying, no brushes, hiding of the blow dryer, straitening iron, and going darker again (which I think looks better) now looking back.
Here is a photo ( I had a retarded expression, why the black box) of me back in 2005, that is my motivation..SO much longer and thicker... What happened?

So today with it air dried and pulled in a low loose chiffon I have to admit not bad, I just honestly believe if you are not happy with the hair on your head it effects so much of your self esteem..

So what are your hair tricks to growing your hair out? Or regrets of color/cuts.. Share with me.
